When we talk about the northeast of Mallorca, we often start with the sense of calm you feel after only a few steps. Between Capdepera, Cala Ratjada and Artà you find beaches and coastal paths that we visit regularly because they have a relaxed character that you do not find everywhere on the island. Many of our guests describe this feeling in the same way and we understand why. The region makes it easy to arrive, settle in and feel comfortable right away.

We often start the day on the golf course and see the glittering sea in the distance. Afterwards we sometimes walk down to Cala Gat or to a small stretch of coastline simply because it feels natural and does not need much planning. This kind of spontaneous experience is typical of the northeast. You combine beach, walk and café almost playfully and have the feeling that everything is close together and moves in a calm and pleasant rhythm.

Why the northeast feels so relaxed

This area has its own rhythm. Small towns, short distances and nature that is always present. Capdepera with its castle, Artà with its market atmosphere and Cala Ratjada with its long seafront promenade together create an environment that feels calm and unhurried. Even on busier days nothing seems hectic. You sense that most people here are not looking for speed but for a clear and quiet kind of holiday.

Short walks you want to do again

Many of our favourite routes are short and uncomplicated. The walk from Cala Gat to the lighthouse shows the character of the region in just a few minutes. The path is easy but beautiful and looks different again and again depending on light and season.

The view from Son Jaumell is one of the most impressive moments in the northeast and is especially rewarding early in the morning. The coastal path to Font de sa Cala is a quiet link between two bays, pleasantly shaded and a good way to add a little extra movement after training.

The beaches around Capdepera and Cala Ratjada

Each beach in this region has its own character. We visit them at different times of day and over the years we have developed our own favourites.

Cala Agulla
Wide and clear and in our eyes the most beautiful beach in the area. Surrounded by pine forest and impressive in every kind of light.

Cala Gat
A small sheltered cove right in Cala Ratjada. Perfect for a short break or a quiet morning.

Cala Mesquida
Natural and open with a long boardwalk through the dunes. Here you see the sea in all its width.

Cala Moltó
A small neighbour of Cala Agulla, very quiet with especially clear water. Ideal when you are looking for rest.

Son Moll
The town beach of Cala Ratjada. Short distances, many cafés and a good place for a spontaneous visit.

Restaurants from casual to fine dining

The northeast offers a pleasant mix. There are simple places by the sea and on village squares that convince with honest food. In addition there are high quality restaurants such as Attik in the Sentits Son Moll Hotel and other venues that serve modern cuisine with a strong sense of place.

For guests who enjoy fine dining there are several addresses in the wider area that have been recognised for their quality and that offer a special experience. They are a very nice way to round off a relaxed holiday day with a dinner that stays in your memory.

What golfers like to do after the round

After a practice session or a round on the course many of our guests are drawn to the coast. We do the same. A short walk through the pine forest, a viewpoint with a wide sea view or a coffee on the seafront promenade are part of a perfect day for many of them.

In the evening the restaurants by the sea feel especially inviting and create a beautiful setting to end the day in a relaxed way. The combination of golf, sea view and short distances fits very well with the kind of holiday experience that many guests are looking for here.

Tips for couples and families

For families the promenade of Cala Ratjada, the short walk to the lighthouse and simple walks with sea views are very suitable. The routes are easy to manage, there are many options for small breaks and you always find a new viewpoint.

Couples often enjoy the quieter hours. Morning walks, a visit to a winery, a drive along the coastal road to Cap Formentor or a stroll through the small villages in the interior of the island give the holiday a personal note and plenty of space for your own discoveries.

Markets we like to visit

The weekly markets in the northeast are part of the holiday routine for many guests. They show a different side of the region and bring everyday life and travel experience together in a very pleasant way.

Artà on Tuesday
Lively, varied and one of the most beautiful markets on the island.

Capdepera on Wednesday
Smaller and quieter with stalls around the village square and a view of the castle.

Cala Ratjada on Saturday
A relaxed weekly market close to the seafront promenade.

The rhythm of the northeast

Market days in Artà, Capdepera and Cala Ratjada, walks through the pine forest, sunrise and sunset at the lighthouse and quiet morning hours on the golf course. All of these moments shape life in the northeast and turn the region into a place that you do not only visit once. Step by step it becomes part of your own routine.
